Philippine Labor Attache Atty. Frank Luna and FOACC Chair Terry Olayta with Waterloo Region Caregivers

11 March 2012 is a historic date for caregivers and workers in the Waterloo Region as Philippine Labor Attache Atty. Frank Luna, visited caregivers, nannies and workers in Waterloo to discuss about current policies affecting caregivers and workers in Ontario. Atty. Luna's visit was enthusiastically welcomed by the KWC Filipino Caregivers Association (FCA) as members were updated about policies affecting them as well as answers to questions about their work status and sources of help when they need them. It was indeed a blessing to have the Labor Attache to speak to our Filipino workers present and to clarify their doubts regarding their work, status and rights. In addition, the labor office also issued OEC certificates for those who are about to go home for a vacation to the Philippines as well as OWWA certificates for at least some insurance protection while being workers abroad. Mr. Oliver, a POLO staff facilitated these documents.

Also to talk about updates on caregiver organizations in Ontario, First Ontario Alliance of Caregivers Canada (FOACC) Chair, Ms. Terry Olayta and caregiver leaders from Niagara came to connect and have fellowship with fellow caregivers. It was a happy and memorable Sunday and we look forward to a strong and dynamic caregiver organization in the Waterloo region. The meeting ended with a working committee identified to organize and manage the election of admin for KWC FCA in May 2012.
